I vote for My Name is Red. I have read Middlesex and it was ok. I know people who have read Atonement and loved it. I have it on my bookshelf and intend to read it soon. My Name is Red is not a book I already own and sounds different than anything we have read lately. It has been compared to the Name of the Rose and The Instance of the Fingerpost, both books that I enjoyed. Istanbul in the 16th century, illuminated manuscripts, art and a murder mystery, who can resist!!
I have read atonement and middlesex. I vote for atonement. Fantastic use of language and an interesting story. I think it is most book club worthy!!!!
I ran into Jasmine today and she votes for Atonement. Asha also emailed in a vote for Atonement.
Christine votes for Atonement. She said it was a toss up between Middlesex and Atonement, but she goes with Atonement. She said she had read something else by the author of Red and wasn't impressed. Atonement wins.
